Passion Flower – Used for the Treatment of Depression Symptoms

Many people suffer from the symptoms of depression every day, and for various reasons. Although anti-depressants are commonly prescribed to alleviate these symptoms, many have very serious side effects. Passion flower, also known as Passiflora Incarnata, is a natural herb which contains a flavonoid called chrysin that has been known to help reduce the symptoms of depression. While passion flower does not treat depression specifically it does have properties to help reduce many of the symptoms that are known to be associated with depression. Because passion flower is a natural sedative it is an effective tool against insomnia and should not be used in large doses. The recommended amount is 200-300 milligrams no more than twice a day. It is also recommended that passion flower not be used in conjunction with sleep aids or anxiety medications.

When used properly passion flower can be very effective in alleviating many of the symptoms of depression but should be used as an alternative to other medications not in combination with them. In addition to its mental health benefits passion flower is also useful as a blood pressure regulator and a muscle relaxer, making it even more beneficial to users.
